Vol 17 #1, Feb. 1990 - Start new screw
When installing a screw do not open the hopper slide gate until the screw begins turning, to prevent resin from sticking to screw.
With no resin in the screw, the screw reaches the barrel temperature quickly and resin will melt on the screw in the feed section. This is particularly true for new screws.
