Tidal Waves Vol. 17 #2, July 1990

Strand cooling troughs have to be moved quickly on occasions, to work at the die or to adjust the distance to the die. Sudden acceleration of the bath on wheels causes surprisingly high waves and floodings that can even splash and freeze the die or extruder barrel.

Before moving the bath, 2 3 sheet metal plates can be inserted in vertical slots across the trough (4 feet apart). They break the waves and allow for quick moves of the trough without draining it.

During stranding operation, the plates will be stored (hanged) at the side of the trough.
