Misalignment
Vol. 22 #1, May 1995

It the barrel on your extruder tends to wobble when the screw is rotating, it is a symptom of a misalignment. It could be a alignment deficiency between the transmission, feed block or barrel. This should be investigated immediately as it can result in a high wear situation, screw breakage or heater creep. You should contact someone who is thoroughly experienced in extruder alignment and construction. Larger machines will probably require borescoping. Again, contact a professional.
